CANADIAN BIBLE SOCIETY PARTNERS WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MINISTRIES CANADA TO DISTRIBUTE SCRIPTURES

TORONTO, Ontario — (CANADIAN CHRISTIAN NEWS SERVICE) — As summer fades into fall in Canada, and students once again fill classrooms from coast-to-coast, the Canadian Bible Society (CBS) is reaching out to equip some of them with God’s Word.

In partnership with International Student Ministries Canada-a Christian charitable organization whose vision is to empower international students to impact the world through Jesus Christ-CBS will be distributing over 1,000 Bibles, New Testaments and testimonies (of previous international students) to young adults newly arrived in Canada.

International Student Ministries Canada (ISMC) focuses on reaching international students during their time in this country, providing friendship and helping them adjust to Canadian culture and their new learning context.

“We really see how these gifts [of the Scriptures] speak to them,” says Stephen Scott of International Student Ministries Canada. “As they embrace the truth, it transforms their lives.”

“The Canadian Bible Society exists to translate, publish, and distribute the Christian Scriptures,” says Jonathan Dent “and to promote and encourage the use of the Bible, here in Canada and around the world. In partnership with ISMC, we are able to put God’s Word into the hands of young people who will take it back to their home countries, their families, or wherever God calls them.”

Vivian is an international student who says she used to think studying and achieving good grades was the sole purpose of life, but that she seldom felt satisfied. “When I started to learn the Bible and I started to pray, I [realized] the purpose of my life isn’t just study. It’s more about relationship with people, and He will be there with me. … I have hope, because I know God and I have a relationship with Him.”

In its 110th year, the mandate of the Canadian Bible Society is today as it always has been: to promote and encourage, without doctrinal note or comment, the translation, publication, distribution, and use of the Bible, and to co-operate with the United Bible Societies in its worldwide work. CBS is a uniquely interdenominational  organization that partners with individuals, churches, and para-church organizations who similarly believe that God’s Word changes hearts and lives.
