CANADIAN WRITER RELEASES MEMOIR OF LIFE IN APARTHEID-SOUTH AFRICA

December 9, 2013

Immoral Proposal Book CoverTORONTO – Canadian author and freelance journalist Jennifer Graham grew up in South Africa in the 1960s, a nation in the grip of apartheid. An Immoral Proposal – her newly released memoir – traces her journey of political awakening and a forbidden love that culminated in an escape from South Africa with her white fiancé.

The book takes readers inside the childhood of a preacher’s daughter of colour living under a system that she couldn’t comprehend, but which ruled the boundaries of her life in increasingly repressive ways.

“Apartheid was a complex and diabolical regime that ultimately forced us into exile,” says Graham, who with her husband Michael went on to become “global nomads,” eventually settling in Ontario.

“It wasn’t till the mid-70s after I had been exiled from South Africa and unstoppable protests and riots broke loose in the country of my birth, through the international press, that I learned who Nelson Mandela really was,” says Graham. “Thank you, Nelson Mandela, for taking on the fearsome juggernaut of apartheid and finally slaying the beast. Rest in peace, Madiba.”

An Immoral Proposal published by Shulemite Publishing is available on Amazon.com and Kindle or directly from the author at www.jenniferbgrahamdotcom.wordpress.com.
