FOTOREFLECTION in collaboration with Save the Mothers presents “La Madre” photo exhibit honouring mothers

BURLINGTON, ONT. — (CANADIAN CHRISTIAN NEWS SERVICE) — Just in time for Mother’s Day, FOTOREFLECTION: Photography Beyond the Frame, in collaboration with Save the Mothers, announces the up-coming photo exhibit “La Madre” (Spanish for “Mother”) from May 1 – May 30, 2015 in Toronto.

Photojournalist Moussa Faddoul has gathered a selection of his favourite photos depicting mothers from around the globe. The exhibit, which will be part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival 2015, will be on display in the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, at the offices of Context With Lorna Dueck, (250 Front St. W. Unit 1F101, Toronto, across from the security desk by the Wellington Street entrance.)

A reception marking the opening of the exhibit will take place on the evening of Friday May 1, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (EDST) at the same location. Media are invited. Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese, C.M., founder and executive director of the international maternal health organization Save the Mothers (STM) and co-director of the International Women’s Health Program at McMaster University will attend.

“The theme selected me,” says Faddoul. ” ‘Motherhood’ gave birth to itself in my heart as I was selecting favorite photos from my collection. It struck me that the characteristics of a mother are profound; nurturing, protective, hard-working, strong, gentle, determined, vulnerable, and most certainly loving. I hope to feature as broad a range of ‘motherly’ traits in my photos. I don’t want to feature the ‘weak’ and the ‘poor’ only, but the strong and the joyous as well.”

“We’re delighted to partner with FOTOREFLECTION in making this exhibit available to the public,” says Dr. Daniel Scott, Managing Director of Save the Mothers. “We know the value of a mother. And we see in Moussa’s beautiful photographs that he does too.”

“As an organization that’s working hard to prevent the deaths of 800 women who die every day from entirely preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, we recognize the importance of reflecting on all that mothers mean in our lives. We hope ‘La Madre’ will help others to do that too.”
