MISSISSAUGA, Ontario–There was a time when the Church in Canada sat at or near the centre of culture. But as the Church has been pushed to the margins of post-Christian society, one of the greatest points of tension has been surrounding the issue of sexual identity. In this milieu, New Direction has been hard at work, nurturing safe and spacious places for sexual minority persons to explore and grow in faith in Jesus Christ. Now, New Direction announces the launch of the Generous Spaciousness Conference.
Generous Spaciousness 2013 will offer a safe place to be authentic, to share, to worship, to learn and to grow. It will run Friday, September 20, 2013 (7:00 to 9:00 p.m.) and Saturday, September 21, 2013 (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) at Meadowvale Community Christian Reformed Church, 2630 Inlake Court, Mississauga. The cost to attend is $30, which includes a bag lunch on Saturday.
The conference promises to be a time for forging new relationships, nurturing old ones and strengthening the Church. The schedule includes worship and community groups, with keynote addresses by Wendy Gritter, Executive Director of New Direction.
“Divisions and disagreements among Christians on the matter of homosexuality have disheartened many,” says Gritter. “The Generous Spaciousness Conference transforms such despair into hope as passionate followers of Jesus have the opportunity to humbly listen to one another’s journeys of faith.”
Generous Spaciousness 2013 welcomes all who are interested in the issue of sexual identity to enter this experience of Christian community with generous hearts, a listening and humble posture, and to experience God’s outrageous love and grace.
“The relationships that form at the GSC transcend differences and find their strength in shared love for Christ and the Scriptures,” says Gritter. “The GSC creates a space where the right priorities emerge and the Church is strengthened.”
