“In the Bible, God refers to Himself in hundreds of ways, using different names. I began to explore why that is and what these names mean,” said Fox. “It’s hard to trust a stranger. I’m certainly not going to open my heart to someone who I don’t trust. I believe God uses different names intentionally, to show us different aspects of His character and to show us who He is so we know we can trust Him.”

In Old Testament times, names were not simply a tag of identification but an indication of someone’s character. Each name of God reflects an aspect of His character, allowing us to better understand Him. Names of God: Living Unafraid includes seven chapters that explore the following seven names of God:

  1. Yahweh―“I am who I am.” God is self-existent and yet desires relationship.
  2. Yahweh Tzidkenu―The Lord Is Our Righteousness. Jesus has redeemed us.
  3. Yahweh Rohi―The Lord Is My Shepherd. Our ever-present God cares deeply for us.
  4. Yahweh Tzevaot―The Lord of Hosts. God is the supreme commander.
  5. Yahweh Yireh―The Lord Will Provide. God knows our needs in advance.
  6. Yahweh Shammah―The Lord Is There. God’s presence makes all the difference.
  7. El Elyon – Most High God. God is the supreme, sovereign, ultimate authority.

Each chapter contains:

• A name of God (pronunciation, scripture reference, translation, prayer, and word study)

• Accompanying video insights, accessible online

• Key background information, in-depth overviews, and cultural context

• Fresh insights, practical action steps, and eye-opening reflection questions

“This book is the first in a three-part series,” said Fox. “In each book, I’ll unpack seven different names of God for a total of 21 names. I’ve chosen to start with these seven specifically because these are seven names and character traits that I’ve personally experienced. They have moved me from being bound up by fear to true freedom. I believe that understanding who God is sets us free to live unafraid.”
