CHRISTIAN AUDIO BOOKS BECOME MORE ACCESSIBLE IN CANADA WITH OPENING OF NEW TALKING BOOK LIBRARY RECORDING BOOTH

STOUFFVILLE, Ontario — (CANADIAN CHRISTIAN NEWS SERVICE) — The grand opening of Talking Book Library (TBL)’s new recording booth, in partnership with 105 Gibson (105gibson.com), held its ceremony on Aug.17 at 105 Gibson Centre, a Christian care centre located in Markham.

Moderated by TBL’s chair, Peter Van Velzen, the ceremony included a variety of speakers: Rev. Harding Ng, pastor of Toronto Christian Community Church, Pastor Jonathan Chan, General Director of 105 Gibson Centre, Peter Friberg, a TBL Board Director, Cheryl Marcus, CELA representative who serves the Markham Public Library, Pastor Danny Leung, Director of Joy Beyond Vision Community (JBVC) ministry, Pastor CY, a TBL Board Director and Betty Leung, TBL’s Chinese Ministry Coordinator.

Guests learned that vision loss affects over half a million Canadians but only less than 10 percent of all printed materials are available in alternative and accessible formats.

TBL’s Christian audio books are available to the visually impaired and print disabled community (VIP’s) through the distribution services of CELA (Centre for Equitable Library Access) public library system. A print disability is learning, visual or physical disability that prevents a person from reading print material.

CELA reported that almost 5,000 checkouts of TBL recordings occurred from January to July 2016 alone. TBL is the only Christian audiobook publisher offering its works to CELA library.

Guests listened to live narration demonstrations by TBL English narrator Trish Tough and Chinese narrator Joseph Liu through headphones connected to the outside of the booth.
