Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson Star in Highly-Anticipated, Inspirational Film Ordinary Angels

TORONTO, Ont., August 22, 2023 – Based on the extraordinary true story of a Kentucky hairdresser who rallied a town to save a life, ORDINARY ANGELS will release in theatres nationwide on February 23, 2024. The film is brought to the big screen by the creators of JESUS REVOLUTION, Kingdom Story Company,. The content company is helmed by Jon and Andrew Erwin (I Still Believe), Kevin Downes (I Can Only Imagine) and Tony Young (American Underdog), in partnership with Lionsgate and distributed by Cineplex Pictures in Canada.

Based on a remarkable true story, ORDINARY ANGELS centres on Sharon Steves (Academy Award Winner, Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed Schmitt (Alana Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels.

“I was drawn to this beautiful true story because it’s such a powerful reminder that angels reside everywhere among us,” said lead actress, Hilary Swank. “And that faith, hope, grit and positivity are all powerful fuel for miracles. It’s also a story about the power of organ donation – something incredibly near and dear to my heart. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this story and message.”

ORDINARY ANGELS stars Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don’t Cry), Alan Ritchson (Reacher), Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, Drew Powell, Amy Acker, Skywalker Hughes and Emily Mitchell. The film was directed by Jon Gunn (The Case for Christ) and produced by Kingdom Story Company’s Kevin Downes, Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin, as well as Roy Lee, ATO Pictures’ Dave Matthews, Stampede Ventures’ Jon Berg, Green Hummingbird Entertainment’s David Beal and Sarah Johnson, and Jonathan Dorfman. The screenplay was penned by Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig.

“Kingdom Story Company endeavours to bring inspiring true stories to life on screen. ORDINARY ANGELS spotlights one family’s seemingly insurmountable struggles and the everyday people who helped them in remarkable ways,” said Kevin Downes, Producer. “Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson bring to life this heroic example of how one person can change a family and how that changes a community and gives rise, quite literally, to life and to hope.”

Distributed in Canada by Cineplex Pictures, ORDINARY ANGELS debuts in Canadian theatres on February 23, 2024.
