Petition for Nigerian Captives
Violent persecution has been increasing in Nigeria and kidnappings are becoming a common occurrence in the northern region of the country. While everyone living in the region is vulnerable to attacks and kidnappings, Christians are targeted specifically because of their faith. We are particularly concerned about:
- Leah Sharibu, 18 years old, held for 3 years as a slave of the ISWAP faction of the Boko Haram extremist group
- Alice Ngaddah, a nurse who worked for UNICEF, was kidnapped by the ISWAP faction of Boko Haram 3 years ago
- The Chibok girls. On April 14, 2014, 276 girls between the ages of 12 and 16, from a college in Chibok in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria were abducted by the main faction of Boko Haram. A hundred of them are still to be released.
- The victims’ families. There is no government liaison agency to maintain a channel of communication, inform and assist families traumatized by these abductions.
A Community Where Christians Are Not Welcome
San Andres Yaa is a small indigenous community located in southwestern Mexico. It is also one of the most violent cities against evangelical Christians in this region. Community leaders look unkindly on those who abandon the customary animist religion for Christianity
Pressure on Christians Continues with Harassment and Court Cases
Despite the fact that apostasy — leaving one faith to take up another — was decriminalized in 2020 and it is legal in Sudan for non-Muslims to be married to each other, a Sudanese Christian couple is on trial for adultery.
