A Historic Movement Sweeps Canada: Recognizing December as Christian Heritage Month

WATERLOO, Ont., December 18, 2024— In a time when Canada’s rich cultural mosaic is celebrated, a new and powerful movement is rising — one that honors the faith, values, and contributions that helped lay the very foundation of this nation. Led by Molly Banerjei, CEO of the Christian Music Festival, this initiative seeks to establish December as Christian Heritage Month nationwide, uniting believers from coast to coast in a spirit of faith, unity, and celebration.

With over 20 million Canadians identifying as Christian, this is more than a recognition. It affirms the Christian values of service, charity, and community-building that have shaped our society and continue to inspire generations. Canada is celebrated for its inclusivity and diversity and owes much of its identity to these enduring principles.

A Groundswell of Support Across Canada

Over 40 municipalities have declared December as Christian Heritage Month, with the Province of Saskatchewan making history as the first province to embrace this recognition. This movement is spreading like wildfire, with the goal of achieving nationwide recognition by December 2025.

In Ottawa, Liberal Member of Parliament Jean Yip is championing Motion-171 to secure official national recognition. This motion is anticipated to receive broad multi-party support, demonstrating that faith and unity transcend political lines.

At the recent Christmas on the Hill celebration hosted by MP Jean Yip on December 11, 2024, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau endorsed the initiative, acknowledging the vital role Christian heritage plays in Canada’s diverse and multicultural mosaic.

“Christian values of service, charity, and community-building are woven into the very fabric of our nation,” said Molly Banerjei. “More than half of Canadians identify with the Christian faith. By recognizing December as Christian Heritage Month, we celebrate these contributions and strengthen Canada’s legacy of inclusivity, respect, and unity.”

Join the Movement

Jay and Molly Banerjei are calling on all Canadians — individuals, churches, community groups, and faith leaders to unite in this historic effort:

  • Sign the Petition: Join the thousands who have already supported declaring December as Christian Heritage Month in their city.
  • Host or Attend Events: Celebrate your faith in your community and spark a wave of unity and pride across the nation.
  • Raise the National Christian Heritage Month Flag Proudly: Show your support by flying the flag in your community this December.
  • Spread the Word: Share the vision of Christian Heritage Month and raise awareness in the spirit of service and unity.

“What started as a small spark just six months ago has erupted into a nationwide wildfire of excitement,” said Molly Banerjei. “This is an incredible opportunity for Christians to come together and make history. Together, we can ensure that the stories, values, and contributions of Canada’s Christian community are recognized and honored.”
