HAMILTON, Ontario—Tickets are now on sale for Save the Mothers’ Gala Dinner, Silent Auction and Live Auction.
The dinner and auction – which is Save the Mothers’ largest fundraising event each year – will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Paradise Banquet and Convention Centre, 7601 Jane Street in Concord, Ontario.
The evening will feature a special appearance by Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese, founder and executive director of Save the Mothers. Dr. Chamberlain Froese has earned multiple awards recognizing her commitment to women and babies in the developing world, including an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Waterloo (June 2013) and the 2012 Prix d’Excellence from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Every day 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Ninety-nine percent of these deaths occur in the developing world. Early in her career as an obstetrician-gynaecologist, Dr. Chamberlain Froese realized it would require change at all levels of society in developing countries to address the high rates of maternal death. Through a unique educational program offered in Uganda, Save the Mothers (STM) develops local champions for change throughout East Africa in the fields of government, media, academia, law and medicine.
“The November 23 event will bring together friends and supporters of Save the Mothers,” said Dr. Dan Scott, STM’s managing director. “This is a great opportunity for Canadians who care about poverty and injustice in the developing world, to express their support. We invite all who would like to put their compassion into action to attend. Help STM raise the desperately needed funds to continue this life saving work.”
