The events, scheduled to take place 20 May 2014, will include the College’s Service of Celebration–a worship service for graduands and their guests–and the Convocation scheduled for later that evening. Media are welcome to attend at 8:00 p.m., at Convocation Hall, McMaster University, 1280 Main Street West in Hamilton.
During the Convocation service, Dr. Stanley E. Porter, President and Dean of McMaster Divinity College, along with the Reverend Lionel Pye, Chair of the Board, will confer the degree Doctor of Divinity honoris causa upon Manning. As a practicing Christian with a unique passion for relating faith to science, business, and politics, McMaster Divinity College believes that Manning embodies their paradigm of Knowing the Word of God, Being transformed into Christ’s image, and Doing the work of ministry.
With students from more than 35 denominations, MDC is one of the premier evangelical seminaries in Canada. “Our students reflect a broad mix of ethnic and national backgrounds, age diversity, and, of course, both men and women training together for Christian service,” said Stanley Porter, President and Dean at MDC. “Our high academic standards and rigorous academic programs are based on the foundation of God’s Word.”
Situated at the heart of the McMaster University campus in downtown Hamilton, the College is a separately chartered affiliate of the University, with its own degree-granting powers, yet shares in the University’s rich learning resources. MDC’s mission is to develop effective Christian leaders for the Church, academy and society.
