Tickets on Sale for Save the Mothers’ Dinner & Auction

HAMILTON, Ontario—Tickets are now on sale for Save the Mothers’ Annual Dinner, Silent Auction and Live Auction.

The event – which is Save the Mothers’ largest fundraiser each year – will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Paradise Banquet and Convention Centre, 7601 Jane Street in
Concord, Ontario.

The evening will feature a talk by Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese, founder and executive director of Save the Mothers. Dr. Chamberlain Froese is an internationally recognized expert in women’s reproductive health, and was recently appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in recognition of her commitment to saving the lives of women and babies in the developing world.

An estimated 800 women die every day of preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Ninety-nine percent of these deaths occur in the developing world. Early in her career as an obstetrician-gynaecologist, Dr. Chamberlain Froese realized it would require change at all levels of society to eradicate preventable maternal death. She developed Save the Mothers (STM) to educate and equip local champions for maternal health – in the fields of government, media, academia, law and medicine – throughout East Africa.

“As people who care about the environment, and surely, mothers and children are part of that environment, and who care about the violation of human rights – and mothers dying from preventable pregnancy complications is definitely a violation of human rights – we all need to be informed of what is going on and do what we can to make a difference,” said Chamberlain Froese.

“Our November 20 event is a great opportunity for all Canadians who care about this issue to express their support,” said Dr. Dan Scott, STM’s managing director.

“Help us save mothers and babies in the developing world by supporting this event,” he added. “Your donations, sponsorships and ticket purchases will contribute to making preventable maternal death a tragedy of the past.”
