15 Years After Releasing his Debut Book, John Myer Releases Second Book
‘Alive on the Inside’ will be available for purchase in December 2022
WATERLOO, ON – December 19, 2022 – 15 years after the release of his debut novel Solid, church planter and pastor John Myer picked up his pen and started writing. As his focus has been placed on themes of deeper Christian living, the heartbeat of Myer’s new book is internal revival. Alive on the Inside is an internal snapshot of the new spirit, and new heart brought in by regeneration, demonstrating a robust Christian walk that depends on an interface of eternal life with our inward parts.
“So much of the Bible addresses inner life, but little emphasis has been placed on the specifics of it, where the second birth has taken place, and from where all authenticity springs,” says John Myer, Author of Alive on the Inside. “The prevailing fear has been that if believers pay attention to it, they will retreat into closets, privatizing and individualizing the Christian life, essentially turning into mystics and perhaps even reinventing the faith. Yet, biblical inner life does none of those things. This book, then, will seek to give a rigorous fair hearing to a little known and little practiced Christian life.”
Alive on the Inside is a spiritual anthropology, a deep dive into God’s creative hardwiring of human beings, how He redeems it, and His Spirit works together with it all. Rather than cumulatively referring to our inward parts under the generic label of “heart,” John Myer slides a magnifier over what the Bible refers to as “our spirit,” which he portrays as our “fuse box.” Because of sin, this fuse box is dead, with no voltage coursing through it. But upon our reception of the gospel, the Holy Spirit enters us, and enlivens our spirit.
“As I’ve often told people in my church, ‘One of the best gifts we can give one another is our own healthy spiritual life.’ Ultimately, I close the book with a description of a spiritual person, which I hope will banish misconceptions,” says Myer. “The enduring image is that he or she tends to be weird–unpleasant, and extreme. And at times, that has been true. By the final chapter, the reader (hopefully), will understand that he or she isn’t on track to become an angel, but someone beautifully human.”
