NEW BOOK ON CANCER OFFERS UNIQUE APPROACH TO COPING

When Cancer. No Laughing Matter (But it Helps!) author Glynis Belec is diagnosed with ovarian cancer, at first she doesn’t believe it. But once she realizes this is not a nightmare and the tests are not lying, she finds herself on the verge of a decision—wallow in self pity or put on her big-girl stretchy pants and dance out loud.

“I wanted to say something profound about why I wrote this book,” says Glynis. “I wanted to tell the world that everyone should read it and learn all kinds of things about how to handle what’s happening. I wanted to help people understand that surviving cancer is possible and it’s all about your attitude, so you better smarten up. This book doesn’t promise one iota of any of that. But I think it does whisper some rather odd things into the already confused and scared brain of those dealing with cancer, and testing, and chemo, and side effects, and panic and sleeplessness, and the list goes on. Odd things and feelings and emotions that only someone dealing with, or caring for someone with cancer, gets.”

Glynis is an award-winning author and freelance writer and has owned and operated Angel Hope Publishing for the past eight years. Faith, fun and a wholesome read are the goals for all Angel Hope Publishing books. In Cancer. No Laughing Matter (But it Helps!) Glynis has managed to turn a sometimes-terrifying subject into one that not only honours God, but also offers hope, encouragement, comfort, joy, and a jolly good read.

In her book, Glynis doesn’t gloss over the truth and willingly tells us about the times when she wonders if she is being neurotic, psychotic, or just plain idiotic. She honestly shares how she tries to cope. How she tries to survive and how the love of friends, family and faith lesson after faith lesson help her through.

As an added bonus, Glynis shares the stories of others who have experienced the rigours of cancer, including a writer friend who was slowly dying of stage four pancreatic cancer. God pressed it upon her heart to interview her friend for the book, and it turned out this gracious woman was thrilled to be able to share what it was like ‘preparing for eternity.’ Glynis describes it as a little like walking on Holy ground.

What Some Are Saying About Cancer. No Laughing Matter (But it Helps)

Loved it! I can’t recall reading a better book about the journey through cancer than this one. It grabbed me from the first page and did not let go. A powerful story that everyone should read.
– Nancy Seiling Children’s Ministry Leader, Ventriloquist, Singer and Author

This book will encourage you, challenge you, offer a chuckle or two along the way, help us remember we are not alone, and that laughter helps. I did not want to stop reading this well-written book.
– Carol Harrison. Author, Inspirational Speaker and Storyteller

The book is a good blend of medical information, personal experience, and inspiration. Glynis’s faith comes through in many ways, but as she says in the introduction, the book is not only for Christians. Any reader interested in the subject will get a lot out of it.
– Elma Schemenauer Author of many books including Yester Canada: Historical Tales of Mystery and Adventure.

I love Glynis’s unique approach in Cancer. No Laughing Matter (But it Helps) and I see it as such an encouragement for others in many ways! She is one gifted lady with a great sense of humour.
